Each year, the IDEAL consortium organizes a three-day “Train The Trainers” seminar, bringing together 12-15 trainee medical educators from partner universities.

What is the IDEAL “Train The Trainers” seminar?

The IDEAL “Train The Trainers” seminar, also known as “TTT”, is designed to foster excellence in teaching and promote the use of innovative methods in medical education, creating a collaborative environment for the exchange of knowledge and best practices.

Why should I participate?

The IDEAL “Train The Trainers” seminar aims to promote excellence in teaching and skills development by:

  • Improving the effectiveness and relevance of European medical educators’ teaching methods
  • Sharing innovative and effective teaching techniques
  • Addressing the unmet need for practical training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Developing advanced teaching tools to foster collaboration and build a community of medical educators across Europe
  • Teaching to an interprofessional group of students (nurses, pharmacists, medical students, physicians…)
  • Tackling communication skills through diverse disciplines and cultures
  • Addressing “Situational Awareness” to ensure that everyone gets the same understanding of the situation

An English B2 level is required, at least.

What techniques are covered during the seminar?

Teaching techniques cover education for active learning in large and small groups.

The IDEAL “Train The Trainers” focuses on training medical and healthcare  educators in advanced teaching techniques, including:

  • Flipped classrooms
  • Team-based learning
  • Case-based clinical reasoning
  • Simulation
  • Debriefing
  • Gaming
  • E-lectures
  • Hybrid synchronous and asynchronous learning methods—supported by Chi’s ICAP model.

What is the purpose of this training?

The trainees of the IDEAL “Train The Trainers” seminar join the IDEAL team and are able to teach to students during the IDEAL clinical interprofessional multidisciplinary workshops and summer schools.

They also have the opportunity to mentor their peers in implementing the innovative teaching methods learned during the seminar in their institutions, and to become trainers in the next IDEAL “Train The Trainers” seminars.
