The IDEAL annual summer school provide postgraduate and advanced undergraduate health students with an advanced global health perspective on communication and interprofessionality through the spectrum of the infectious diseases.

What is the IDEAL summer school?
The IDEAL summer school provides a unique opportunity to gain practical insights into global health challenges, engage in interprofessional collaboration and strengthen professional bonds with peers and trainers from across Europe.
It focuses on public health, offering the participants an extensive immersion into the different dimensions of managing emerging infectious diseases with epidemic potential, with a new strong emphasis on communication through three main dimensions:
- Vaccinal hesitation communication
- Crisis scenario on epidemics
- Public health interventions and communication, including fake news, trust-building and health promotion
Why should I participate ?
Each IDEAL summer school is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle communication and interprofessionality challenges, using infectious diseases as a framework and including various public health sectors, including epidemiology, vaccinology, health policy and communication.
Students ‘s communication skills are emphasized at 4 key levels:
- With the general population to implement prevention and information campaigns
- Between different healthcare professions to ensure seamless collaboration in clinical and community settings
- At the national level by engaging public health stakeholders and policymakers to coordinate the response to infectious diseases threats
- At the European level by working with relevant organizations to promote cross-border communication and crisis management
The IDEAL summer school improves existing curricula in partner institutions and complete the IDEAL clinical interprofessional multidisciplinary workshops.
The courses are taught in English by an international team of educators from the five partner institutions.
An English B2 level is required, at least.
What techniques are covered during the summer school?
The IDEAL summer school relies on engaging, highly interactive methods like role plays, simulations, hackathons and escape rooms to train participants to communication in an active and innovative way.
Daily wrap-ups reinforce core messages and essential knowledge of the day while enhancing the learning experience and fostering collaboration across disciplines.
What is the purpose of this training?
The IDEAL summer school aims at providing the participants with a comprehensive understanding of the global challenges posed by the lack of interprofessionality and gaps in communication among medical and health professionals and future professionals.
The 5-day training dedicates a day to a specific topic that is crucial to a better communication between healthcare and health professionals in order to promote communication and interprofessionality as major reasons of success during pandemic and health crises:
- Non-pharmaceutical interventions and pandemic preparedness
- Multidisciplinary interprofessional management
- Vaccinology
- Communication, including trust building and tackling fake news
- Interprofessional crisis management scenario
